On Sep. 6, Du Jiang, Vice-Chairman of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) & Vice-Director of the Organizing Committee of the 5th Cross - Strait Travel Fair, and Hong Jiexu, Vice-Governor of Fujian Province & Vice-Director of the Organizing Committee of the 5th Cross-Strait Travel Fair met with the attending guests from mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan before the opening ceremony of the 5th Cross-Strait Travel Fair.

First of all, Du Jiang extended welcome to the domestic and foreign guests who came to attend the Fair on behalf of CNTA and Cross-Strait Tourism Exchange Association. He said that, the holding of this Fair reflected the common desire of the tourism industries across the strait and demonstrated the initiative to bring into play the “Five-Relationship” of Fujian and Taiwan and implement the policy concerning cross-strait tourism exchange; recently, some troublemakers triggered some incidents in Taiwan, which exerted adverse effects on cross-strait relationship and undermined the enthusiasm of mainland residents to travel to Taiwan; the tourism industries across the strait should make joint efforts to cherish and maintain the hard-won sound development momentum of cross-strait relationship so as to further enhance cross-strait tourism exchange, expand cross-strait tourism cooperation, and promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relationship.

He indicated that since mainland residents were permitted to travel to Taiwan in July last year, the overall situation was sound because the tourism industries across the strait made a lot of efforts. Up to Sep. 5, this year, mainland residents travelling to Taiwan have exceeded 450,000 person-times; at the same time, the tour program of “one trip with several stops” covering mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan has also made much headway; on Aug. 2, the passenger ship of “one trip with several stops” departed from Hong Kong to Taiwan, showing the potential cooperation and development room for the tourism industries in mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Du Jiang expected that the people in the tourism industries of mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan could take advantage of this Fair to jointly build the new cooperation mechanism featuring shared resources, mutual benefit, shared information and mechanism interaction. Finally, Du Jiang wished this Fair a complete success and the cooperation in the tourism industries in mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to reap a bumper harvest.

Lin Bingkun, Chairman of Non-Partisan Solidarity Union in Taiwan, said that the tourism industries across the strait had established sound communication mechanism in recent years, and the cross-strait tourism exchange and cooperation had reached a new historical height. They were confident in cross-strait tourism cooperation and would make joint efforts with mainland tourism industry to weather through difficult periods.
