On November 19th, China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009, co-sponsored by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), Yunnan Provincial People's Government and China Civil Aviation Administration, saw the grand opening at Kunming International Convention and Exhibition Center. Against the backdrop of the global financial crisis, China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009 is of great significance for improving the results from China's tourism promotion efforts and effectively boosting the restoration of international tourist market.

Bai Enpei (Party Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Director of Standing Committee of Yunnan Provincial People's Congress) attended the opening ceremony, and Shao Qiwei (Chairman of China National Tourism Administration) gave speeches. Chinese guests present on the opening ceremony included Li Jiheng (Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee), Wang Xueren (Chairman of Yunnan Provincial CPPCC Committee), Luo Zhengfu (Member of Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Yunnan Province), Yang Yingnan (Member of Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Secretary-General to Governor of Yunnan Province), Qiu He (Member of Standing Committee of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of the CPC Kunming Municipal Committee), Wang Zhifa (Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration), Du Jiang (Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration), Wu Wenxue (Vice President of China Tourism Association), Wang Fuyu (Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee), Liu Yongfu (Member of Standing Committee of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee and Vice Governor of Gansu Province), Bu Xiaolin (Vice Chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region), Tian Ming (Assistant to Chairman of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region). Governmental officials, exhibitor representatives and buyer representatives from more than 90 countries and regions and international tourism organizations, relevant leaders, representatives of exhibition delegations from China's 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions as well as some large-scale tourism enterprises. In addition, leaders from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, also attended the opening ceremony. Zhu Shanzhong (Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration) presided over the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Shao Qiwei, on behalf of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and the Organizing Committee of China International Tourism Trade Fair, extended welcome for the  domestic and foreign participating guests. He said 94 countries and regions participated in the current tourism trade fair exhibitors, which had a special significance and role for our strengthening friendship, expanding cooperation and promoting the development of tourism industry.

As Shao Qiwei expressed, China's tourism industry has actively responded to the challenges from the global financial crisis and other unfavorable factors since the beginning of 2009. From January to October 2009, China's domestic tourist market witnessed a steady growth. The decline range of inbound tourism market narrowed, while outbound tourism market operated steadily, which rose 11% on a year-on-year basis in October. Tourism industry continued to grow up on the whole. As global economy has gradually improved and China's national economy has ushered in stabilization and recovery period, we believe that China's tourism industry will enter into a new stage characterized by comprehensive resumption and development. China's tourism industry is willing to join hands with the global tourism industry so as to promote the recovery and development of the worldwide tourism industry.

Shao Qiwei said as World Expo 2010 would be held in Shanghai, it is a new opportunity for the development of China's tourism industry. And he welcomed more friends to visit the Expo, experience Shanghai and make a tour throughout China.

In his speech, Luo Zhengfu said Yunnan tourism industry is taking great strides torwards the goal of distinctive characteristics, domestic first-class and world-renowned tourist destination. And we will follow planning and requirements from Central Government, continue to promote "second pioneering" in tourism industry, in particular further enhance the hosting level and service quality of China International Tourism Trade Fair, and strive to provide a better platform for promoting exchange and cooperation for tourism industry at home and abroad.

It is reported that exhibition halls for China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009 cover a total area of 50,000 square meters, with 2,148 booths and 3,984 exhibitors from 94 countries and regions, which all exceeded China International Tourism Trade Fair 2007 (92 participating countries and regions at that time) also held in Kunming. China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009 gets rid of the stale contents and adds new contents and new projects in order to fully demonstrate 60-year achievements of China's tourism industry, as well as the role of tourism industry in promoting economic development of regions inhabited by ethnic groups. During China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009, a variety of activities with a series of different themes will be held, including "the China Tourism Night for Promoting Expo 2010", "Taiwan Tourism Night" and so on. China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009 will close on November 22. The 4-day China International Tourism Trade Fair 2009 consists of professional negotiation days (November 19-20) and public visit days (November 21-22).  (China Tourism News, Liu Yahu/Photo)
