On the afternoon of March 30th, the Plaza Hollywood in Kowloon, Hong Kong, was noisy and busy. As one of the important measures of tourism promotion directly for Hong Kong residents, the Chinese Culture Tour Theme Promotion Activities 2011-Hong Kong, sponsored by China National Tourism Administration, jointly sponsored by 19 tourism administrations of the Mainland’s provinces, regions and municipalities, and the Asia Tourism Exchange Center, supported by Hong Kong Tourism Commission, Hong Kong Tourism Board and Hong Kong Travel Industry Council, officially kicks off amid the countdown of the kick-off lever started by guests.

Du Jiang, Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration, made a gracious speech at the opening ceremony of the promotion activities. He noted that in 2010, the two-way tourists between the Mainland and Hong Kong already exceeded 100 million. As the largest tourist sources and destinations for each other and with increasingly close  tourism communication, the Mainland and Hong Kong obtain much beneficial experience in terms of tourism market development, product development and cultural exchange. He pointed out that culture is the spirit of tourism, tourism is the carrier of culture, and the Chinese civilization is the pride for all Chinese compatriots at home and abroad including Hong Kong. The theme year promotion activities in Hong Kong of the “Chinese Culture Tour” aim to deepen the communication and cooperation of the tourism industries between the Mainland and Hong Kong, demonstrate rich tourism resources such as cultural heritages in the Mainland, enhance the promotion degree of Chinese Culture Tour Theme Year Activities in Hong Kong, and attract more Hong Kong compatriots to tour and travel in the Mainland.

Du Jiang noted that Hong Kong is a metropolis integrating Chinese and western cultures and a well-known tourist attraction. The Mainland and Hong Kong are of high supplementing degree in terms of tourism, both sides put the tourism communication and cooperation between the two at the important position, and the developing prospect is limitless. China National Tourism Administration and the tourism administrations of all provinces and municipalities of the Mainland will persistently implement the decisions and policies by the Central Government, offering support to the development of Hong Kong’s tourism, and warmly welcome Hong Kong compatriots to “tour the Mainland and taste the culture with tours to the Mainland”.

Philip Yung, Commissioner of Hong Kong Tourism Commission, expressed in his speech that he is willing to cooperate in the tourism promotion work by the Mainland in Hong Kong, to actively develop and promote the “one trip with several stops” tourism, encourage Hong Kong residents to understand different cultural tourism resources in the Mainland. He also hoped that both sides should enhance exchange and cooperation in respect of credit tourism and quality tourism.

China National Tourism Administration and 19 tourism administrations of the Mainland’s provinces, regions and municipalities carefully prepared publicity materials special for the Hong Kong market, with text and pictures easy and simple to read. On the occasion, more than 1000 questionnaires were distributed, and 3 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 6 third prizes and 6 fourth prizes were randomly selected from questionnaire respondents. All the working personnel actively answered questions from the attending people. Many tourism agencies were selling characteristic tourism routes in the Mainland and handled booking from the tourists. At the same time, large-scale art performance was also carried out. The rich programs concentrated featured culture in the Mainland, such as Shaolin Kongfu, noodle-drawing by standing on stilts with eyes covered, the beautiful fern-leaf bamboo, Yunan dancing, flying cake, Loulan charm, Sichuan face-changing and noodle-making skills. All these programs were presented for Hong Kong compatriots, with excellence and climaxes, attracting lots of Hong Kong residents who were shopping there to stop and enjoy, take pictures and ask for materials.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Wang Zhimin, Vice Director of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Gao Yuchen, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Hong Kong, Wang Bingxin, Director of the Economic Division of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Philip Yung, Commissioner of Hong Kong Tourism Commission, Hu Zhaoying, President of Hong Kong Travel Industry Council, Paul Tse, member of Hong Kong Legco, Anthony Lau, Director-General of Hong Kong Tourism Board, and Joseph Tung, Director-General of Hong Kong Travel Industry Council.
