The 7th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting was held on July 24 in Khabarovsk, a city in Russian Far East. Shao Qiwei, director of China National Tourism Administration, led China tourism delegation to attend the meeting and delivered a keynote speech. Shao said, tourism plays an important role in economic development and prosperity of the Asian-Pacific region, and China is ready to make more positive contributions to further development of tourism industry in the whole region.

This meeting went on under the theme titled “Tourism facilitation for a robust economy of the Asian-Pacific”. With the exception of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, ministers of tourism and senior representatives from other 19 APEC economies communicated with each other around such topics as “APEC tourism development strategy”, “tourism facilitation” and “tourist safety guarantee”. Acting as the host, Alexander Radkov, Head of Russian Federal Agency for Tourism, presided over the meeting.

At the meeting, ministers discussed APEC tourism development strategy (2012-2015) and APEC tourism facilitation proposal, reviewed and passed APEC tourist safety guarantee guideline, and delivered Manifesto of Khabarovsk.

APEC is the most powerful economic cooperation forum in the Asian-Pacific region and covers 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taibei (China), Thailand, America and Vietnam. APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting is held biyearly.
