May 30th, CNTA Vice Chairman Zhu Shanzhong and his party visited Darko Lorencin, the Croatian Minister of Tourism. The two parties made in-depth exchanges on tourism cooperation between China and Croatia and between China and Central & East Europe, as well as other issues of common concern.
Zhu Shanzhong introduced the tourism development in China and the Tourism Law of China to Minister Lorencin. He said that Croatia is an important country in Central and East Europe, and boasts beautiful natural landscape, a long history and rich culture; the Croatian people are hardworking, brave, kind and hospitable, and they have long been friendly to the Chinese people; all these lay a solid foundation for the tourism exchange and cooperation between China and Croatia. As the Chinese outbound tourism market develops, Central and East Europe will become a new hotspot and enjoys great potential for growth. Zhu suggested that the tourism authorities of Croatia take active part in China International Travel Mart on an annual basis and enhance their promotional efforts in the Chinese market so as to allow Chinese people to know Croatia better. They were also suggested to provide support for Chinese travel agencies to develop tourism products that cater to the needs of Chinese tourists, strengthen the training for tour guides who speak Chinese, put up signs in Chinese at airports and in scenic areas, and provide Chinese TV programs in hotels. On July 1st, Croatia will officially become a member of the European Union, and in two years, Chinese group tourists to Croatia will have to apply for Schengen visas. It is thus suggested that the Ministry of Tourism of Croatia make active efforts to facilitate visa issuance for Chinese group tourists. Also, Zhu asked the Ministry of Tourism of Croatia to urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to fulfill the approval procedures for Chinese to become an official language of the World Tourism Organization as soon as possible.
Mr. Lorencin appreciated and agreed with Zhu Shanzhong’s suggestions. He said that tourism was an integral part of the Croatian economy, and Croatia paid great attention to the exploration of the Chinese market. Currently, China has become an important Asian source country of tourists to Croatia, and enjoys great potential for growth. In 2012, a total of 43,000 Chinese tourists visited Croatia, 92% more than the previous year. Mr. Lorencin said that the Croatian side was willing to strengthen the bilateral tourism cooperation with China and will urge the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to fulfill the procedures for Chinese to become an official language as soon as possible. Croatia will enhance its promotional efforts in China, improve the infrastructure for receiving Chinese tourists, and facilitate the visa application process for Chinese tourists, so as to attract more Chinese visitors to Croatia.
