On June 20, Mr. Shao Qiwei, Chairman of China National Tourism Administration, met with Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Somsak Pureesrisak in Beijing.
Mr. Shao said that China and Thailand are friendly neighboring countries with sound political, economic, trade and tourism ties. Tourism is the direct people-to-people exchange and serves as the foundation for promoting bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation. Last year, 650,000 person-times of Thailand citizens visited China. China welcomes more tourists from Thailand. He expressed the hope that the two countries could further deepen the exchange and cooperation on tourism, fully tap into existing bilateral and multilateral cooperative platforms, and mutually support and participate in major international tourism activities, so as to promote sustained and healthy development of tourism in both countries.
Mr. Somsak Pureesrisak said that Thailand and China enjoy a long history of friendship. Tens of millions of Thailand people are of Chinese origin and China has enormous attraction to tourists from Thailand, bringing a rosy prospect for the bilateral tourism cooperation. Having set up four tourist offices in China, Thailand plans to establish the fifth office in Guangzhou, and is grateful for the long-term support and help from China. He accepted Mr. Shao’s invitation to attend 2013 China International Travel Mart, and also warmly welcomed Mr. Shao to various high-profile tourism promotional activities held in Thailand.
Mrs. Ureerat Ratanaprukse, Minister of Royal Thai Embassy, Beijing was present at the meeting.
